Background
An existing client of Skilled Labour Services (Southern), VolkerLaser is one of the UK’s leading multi-functional contractors. Serving all sectors of the industry, they deliver vital refurbishment and strengthening works to key structures across the built environment.
In 2018, Worthing Borough Council awarded VolkerLaser the contract for refurbishment works to an existing multi-storey car park. Works were scheduled to commence in Winter 2018 and expected to be completed in Spring 2019.
Requirement
To supply specialist semi-skilled groundworks operatives to work alongside VolkerLaser’s own contractors for the duration of the refurbishment works.
Challenges
For all construction contractors, souring reliable and committed operatives, who hold the relevant qualifications is always a challenge. It can also prove costly to the project if errors are made by employing inexperienced or unqualified workers.
Solution
With an extensive database of semi-skilled operatives in the Hampshire and Sussex area, Skilled Labour Services (Southern) were able to supply VolkerLaser with a team of 5 operatives to assist with the refurbishment of the car park. All operatives hold the relevant health and safety certificates and qualifications.
The refurbishment works being undertaken include cutting and drilling as well as preparation works. As per the project programme, the operatives began work in November 2018 and they will remain on site for the duration of the project.
Operatives were supplied from the Worthing area, which is local to the project site, as well as some from the Portsmouth area. Those operatives based in Portsmouth are able travel to and from the site each day in one of our Skilled Labour Services (Southern) company vans.
Project manager for VolkerLaser, Andy Weeks said:
