How Skilled Labour Services are keeping your sites Covid safe

The last 12 months has been a challenging time for the construction industry as businesses have been forced to learn how to deliver successful projects in a safe and secure way.

Health and safety has always been high on the industry’s agenda and the pandemic has only increased focus on safe working practices.

As a trusted labour supplier to the construction industry, the Skilled Labour Services team share your commitment to keeping your sites safe for the people working on them.

As such, it was important that we ensured a key member of the team has the requisite skills and qualifications to continue to deliver the service standards you have come to expect from Skilled Labour Services.

Ensuring Complience with regulations

As a client, you already know that choosing Skilled Labour Services to provide your site staff means that you will be supplied with a quality workforce, allowing you to deliver high quality projects on time.

In a highly regulated industry, compliance with regulations is the minimum you can expect. And as our accreditations demonstrate, continuous improvement and striving to be the best in the industry is our start point.

When the pandemic hit, like you, we had to take time to evaluate how we could continue to operate safely and effectively whilst keeping our workforce and our clients safe.

Over time, and as guidance has developed, we have proactively implemented new processes and procedures to ensure compliance, but most importantly to keep you and your teams safe.

Construction and Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has presented the construction industry with considerable challenges to overcome. Doing so has been our overriding priority over the last 12 months.

According to the CITB website, findings from the Office for National Statistics showed that men working in occupations including construction had the highest Covid-19 death rate of all categories of employment.

For us, there could be no clearer indication of the importance of setting out construction sites that are as Covid secure as possible.

Upskilling our team to serve you better

In order to maintain the high quality of service you have come to expect from Skilled Labour Services, upskilling a key member of the team to lead our Covid secure provision was a natural step.

In February 2021, Operations Manager Chris Douglas completed the CITB certificate in Covid-19: Setting up and operating a safe construction site.

The course has been developed in line with the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures and ensures that a key member of the Skilled Labour Services team is appropriately trained and competent to carry out specific tasks related to your site.

What does CITB Covid-19: Setting up and operating a safe construction site certification mean for you?

The CITB is the leading provider of construction industry training and education.

The Covid-19: Setting up and operating a safe construction site certificate, is specifically designed to equip managers and supervisors with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead site teams safely and effectively.

The training covers how Covid-19 is spread, the importance of social distancing, current legislative requirements and how to manage risk in the workplace.

Because it is specific to the unique working environment of construction sites the training goes deeper than other courses and takes into account particular challenges that our workforce faces every day.

Putting training into practice

Of course, simply having the certificate isn’t enough.

That’s why Skilled Labour Services, led in this particular area by Chris, have refreshed our processes including, but not limited to;

  • The inclusion of Covid-19 training in Toolbox Talks
  • Clear lines of communication
  • Updated Risk Assessments
  • Revised travel arrangements
  • The use and cleaning of site facilities

And the final stage in ensuring we do all we can to keep you, your site and our workforce safe and healthy, is to implement regular checks that ensure new training and processes are being carried out in a compliant manner.
