AGENCY MYTHS VS REALITY
MYTH 1 – Agency workers are unskilled
Reality: Some are…. But they have to start somewhere right?
In fact we should be encouraging career growth due to the labour shortage and offer training and experience to labourers who want to progress.
However, there are many, many highly skilled workers that agencies have on their books who have worked within the industry for years , not only do they have a huge range of skills, their experience is second to none.
MYTH 2– Agencies are unreliable
Reality: Many companies face no shows due to workers not turning in to work.
Unfortunately, there is only so much an agency can control in regards to their operatives.
SLS have strict procedures in place to ensure maximum turn out…. But despite phone calls, last minute checks, there can always be a bump in the road.
Due to the current industry issues, reliability is an ongoing issue and something SLS is seriously looking into.
MYTH 3-Agencies are expensive
Reality: Agencies are only expensive if you are not getting the full benefit from your workforce.
The good thing about agency labour , is that you can turn it on and off like a tap during breaks in production and with the current materials shortage….this is a god send to many!
MYTH 4– Agency Workers are not as good as PAYE staff
Reality: Many Operatives do not wish to be PAYE staff as they like to move around, this does not have any impact on their skillsets or work ethic.
In fact, many companies headhunt the highly skilled workers but come away empty-handed as they operative wishes to remain self-employed.
It’s just preference!
