Skilled Labour Services, 2022 Review

Skilled Labour Services Review of 2022

If you’re a regular reader of our articles, you’ll already know that we believe that reflecting on business success plays a crucial role in continued success in the future. As we approach the end of 2022, managing director Rich Allen took a moment to reflect on all the team has achieved in the last 11 months and what that means for Skilled Labour Services’ customers for 2023 and beyond.

Since the start of the post-pandemic return to normal, business activity has consistently been on the up – with an impressive 20% increase compared to the full year in 2021 – and there’s still a month to go.

A Review of 2022 in Statistics

At the time of writing, year to date in 2022, Skilled Labour Services has:

  • Filled 397 work placements.
  • Reliably resourced over 20  regular clients.
  • Built a database of over 2500 verified candidates – larger than ever before.
  • Maintained an excellent H&S record.
  • Raised over £2000 for The Lighthouse Club.

Sector Winners

The housebuilding sector remains the strongest for Skilled Labour Services, showing no signs of slowing down. This is followed very closely by highways – both demonstrating that there is still strong demand for their services in these areas.

However, we aren’t resting on our laurels. In fact, we are working hard to prepare for an exciting new sector proposition launching early in 2023. Watch this space (and Rich’s LinkedIn) for more information as soon as it’s available.

Health & Safety Matters

With construction Health & Safety firmly in the spotlight, we are delighted to report that the company has maintained an excellent health and safety record. Our regular audits have delivered positive feedback on the robustness of our training, policies and procedures. But more importantly, this has translated into real-life H&S wins for our workforce with no major H&S incidents being recorded.

This, combined with already high standards of support in terms of upskilling candidates and ensuring they are adequately prepared for job placements, is a benefit to both clients and workers alike.

Training and Upskilling

As alluded to above, verified candidates on our extensive database are supported to maintain their qualifications and take advantage of opportunities for upskilling.

Significant numbers of our verified candidates have received training during 2022, which means they are equipped to provide high-quality workmanship for our clients.

As an industry, skilled and experienced groundworkers can be hard to come by, and we are confident that our clients enjoy the cream of the crop working on their projects by choosing Skilled Labour Services as their labour supply partner.

During the last 12 months, we further strengthened our QA processes when Ricky Clarke rejoined the team as Contracts Manager. Ricky regularly checks in with our workforce and clients to ensure a quality service is being provided and that our workers are being treated well.

Industry Accreditations

Continuous improvement of our policies and procedures is part and parcel of our business. We currently hold:

  • Constructionline Gold
  • Builders Profile Premium
  • Acclaim H&S SSIP

In addition, we are increasing our accreditations and will be ready to offer our services to new sectors in early 2023.

Supporting The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity

This year Skilled Labour Services’ managing director Rich Allen raised an impressive  £2291 in sponsorship running the TCS London Marathon

Rich chose to support The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity as they are a good fit for us as a business. Having worked in construction for more than 28 years, the London Marathon provided Rich an opportunity to mark his 50th birthday by giving something back to the industry.

The Lighthouse Club is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial well-being support to construction workers and their families. They receive no public funding and rely wholly on the generosity of those within the industry to help them continue their vital work.

Since Covid struck, the charity has provided an immense amount of support to construction workers who were adversely affected by the pandemic. There’s no doubt that their support has saved lives.

Looking ahead to 2023

Overall, Skilled Labour Services can look back on 2022 as one of its most successful years.

The foundations have been laid for continued success into 2023 and beyond – something that our team is very proud of.  With a robust approach to worker welfare combined with a commitment to delivering quality results for clients, we look forward to continuing to thrive in the coming months and years ahead.
